MINUTES OF THE PARISH COUNCIL MEETING
HELD ON THURSDAY 1ST JULY 2010
IN BACKWELL PARISH HALL, BACKWELL
Present: Cllrs C Pope (Chairman), M Bowerman, B Bucknell, M Gibbons-Price,
B Huggins, J Llewellyn, R Mason, K Merryweather, S Ould, C Perry, S Pope, D Sparks, R Taylor and G Wills
In attendance: Mrs J Stone, Clerk of the Council

The Chairman opened the meeting by welcoming everyone present and pointed out the location of the emergency exits and toilets

2. To co-opt new member onto Backwell Parish Council
The Chairman informed members that no applications had been received in respect of the vacancy. The Clerk to re-advertise.

3. Minutes
280 The minutes of the Full Council Meeting held on Thursday 3rd June 2010 were unanimously confirmed as a correct record by those present at that meeting
4. Public Participation
Standing Orders were suspended
3 members of public spoke in favour of reducing the speed limit along Farleigh Road to the Backwell boundary (A370)
Standing Orders were reinstated

To receive and consider letter from District Cllr T Collinson dated 8th June
2010 regarding A370 speed limit Farleigh Road
Members debated the issue of reducing the speed limit from the Leisure Centre
to the boundary of Backwell from 40 mph to 30 mph
282 Resolved: Unanimously Backwell Parish Council recommends the reduction of the 40 mph speed limit to 30 mph along Farleigh Road to the Backwell boundary

anniversary of the Parish Hall, and gave details of a talk planned at the Parish
Hall by local historian Norma Knight on Wednesday 21st August at 7.30 pm and
performances by Backwell Drama Club of 'Backwell Revels' on Thursday 19th/Friday 20th at 7.45 pm and at 7.30 pm on Saturday 21st August 2010

311 Resolved: Unanimously Backwell Parish Council objects as it is overbearing and not in keeping with the neighbouring 12 bungalows. The dormer windows on the front of the property are out of character even though the roof height is acceptable, and the Council is of the opinion it would set a bad precedent.
