Backwell Parish (map) includes a thriving village in North Somerset and about 4500 people. It has excellent transport facilities including bus and car travel to Bristol and Weston super Mare, motorways (M5), its own railway station (including direct to London Paddington and Cardiff) and Bristol International Airport. There are many good sports clubs, cultural activities, allotments, outstanding schools for all age levels, a village club, pubs and beautiful countryside such as Backwell Lake including splendid wildlife / biodiversity and walks. Information about future development including new housing is available and we work closely with the Backwell Residents Association.
Community Connect is a service run by Curo (in partnership with WERN) covering the whole of North Somerset
The service has Community Agents and Community Development Workers working actively with people throughout the area to link them with information and support.
The purpose of the service is to support people to stay connected, supported and active in their communities so that they can remain living independently at home for as long as possible.
The service is different to Care Connect, the local authority call centre for information on Health & Social Care. With Community Connect there is the opportunity for someone to have face to face contact with a representative (via a home visit to tease out issues that may be of concern to people in a more informal way).
Community Connect improves awareness of services, providing support and advice to help people access the services they need.
This may include; access to social groups, increasing income, maintaining their home safely or considering other options for housing, reducing isolation and loneliness and promoting independence through befriending.
If you would like to get in touch for information, to ask for advice or to request a home visit to talk over a query or problem please phone 01275 888803.

A collection of Backwell Walks, including the ‘Backwell Round’, have been published by the Parish Council and are available from the links below. We thank the volunteers who did this work and hope you enjoy!
Locations and times for the Mobile Library Service
Coronavirus – Disruption to Mobile Library Service
In line with government guidance, there will be no customer access onto the Mobile Library as of Thursday 5 November 2020.
We had a very successful return to customers browsing the Mobile Library and we are looking forward to welcoming them back on board when lockdown lifts.
Dependant on lockdown legislation being passed this afternoon, we are aiming to offer the following alternative arrangements:
Customers will be able to place reservations via the LibrariesWest website. When reservations are available for collection, staff will call to arrange a collection date and time.
Click and collect service
The mobile library is offering a non-contact click and collect service. Customers can email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01275 888 864 to place an order. More information on the click and collect service can be found at www.n-somerset.gov.uk/librarycollect. When orders are available for collection, staff will call to arrange a collection date and time.
Returning library books
Library Loans have been extended. If customers direct enquiries to you, please inform them that books should not be returned to the Mobile Library. If customers need help with items currently on loan, ask them to email email@example.com or call 01275 888 864.
For staff safety the Mobile Library may need to run a reduced timetable. We will email you as soon as possible to let you know when this will occur.
We are still asking that customers help us to stay safe by maintaining a two-metre distance from others outside a bubble or family group when they are waiting to collect books.
If circumstances mean that it is not possible for customers to access any of our libraries in person, including the Mobile Library, ask them to email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01934 426 657 as they may be eligible for our Home Library Service.
Libraries are more than just a physical space and we aim to continue to deliver a range of services, including access to eBooks, eMagazines and eResources.
