Jubilee Stone – Gate and Footpaths – Update

Many of you will be aware that the landowner of the field adjacent to the Jubilee Stone has removed the gate which provides access to the field. This is to stop people using the (unofficial) path which runs diagonally across the field down to Piggy Lane. Whilst this route has been used by walkers for many years it was never an official footpath and the landowner wants to stop walkers damaging crops and trespassing. Backwell Parish Council are aware of the situation and are currently liaising with North Somerset Council and the landowner to try and find a legally satisfactory solution, which might allow residents to continue to use the (unofficial) path possibly as a permissive path. In the meantime, please bear with us and continue to use the official pathways.

Big Jubilee Celebration-Sunday 5th June – Backwell Playing Fields- 12.00-5.00pm

Big Jubilee Celebration Backwell Parish Council are organising a Big Jubilee Celebration on Sunday 5th June at the Backwell playing fields. The free to enter event will run from 12.00 Midday until 5pm. Bring along a picnic and celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at this Backwell community get together! Children (and adults!) will be able to make their own decorated crown! So come along dressed as your favourite King/Queen/Prince/Princess ready to wear your Jubilee creation! There will be children’s activities, a classic car display, refreshments and displays from local Backwell groups. There will also be music and a fun dog show, so there really will be something for everyone! Come and join us!
