Last two drop-in sessions today and tomorrow! If you need help accessing the NSC Local Plan 2041 consultation or submitting your comments, come along to Backwell Parish Hall: Wednesday 3rd December 6:30pm – 8:00pm Thursday 4th December 5:00pm – 7:00pm Everyone is welcome — pop in anytime during the session for support. The deadline to respond to the consultation is 5:00pm on 12th December – Let’s make sure every voice in our community is heard!
Help us build a safer Backwell – Have you experienced flooding?
Backwell Parish Council is working hard to ensure our village remains safe and prepared for the future. One of the growing issues we’re tackling is surface water flooding, particularly from rainfall running off Backwell Hill. To address this properly, we need your help. Although official records list only one flooding incident on Farleigh Road since 2012, we believe this doesn’t reflect the true picture. We understand that several properties may have been affected over the years, and it’s vital that these incidents are recognised so we can take the right action. Have you experienced flooding at your property on Farleigh Road? If so, please take a few minutes to complete our quick Flood Report Survey. North Somerset Council Local Plan – Important Update for Residents North Somerset Council’s (NSC) revised draft Regulation 19 Local Plan is now open for public consultation. All responses must be submitted by 12th December at 5.00pm sharp! The plan highlights Backwell, along with Nailsea, as a strategic area for growth, proposing almost 4,000 homes between us. This includes a proposal for another 1,000 houses on a vast area of East Backwell (EB), across land stretching from the Leisure Centre to The George, along with a new road linking the A370 to Station Road opposite Backwell Lake. Together with the 800 homes already consented, this would DOUBLE the size of our village within the next 10 years. United We Stand Backwell Parish Council (BPC) is working closely with Backwell Residents Association (BRA), Backwell Resistance (BR), Brockley Parish Council, Nailsea Town Council and Nailsea Action Group to challenge this scheme.
