Taylor Wimpey (TW) and Rodney Road (RR) development for 60 houses.
Statement from Backwell Parish Council (BPC) – 20th August 2025
BPC thanks residents and users of the Playing fields for their forbearance during this difficult first phase of the Rodney Road (RR) build. A great deal of work is going on behind the scenes to make this situation more manageable for residents as well as having the site access ready before the new school term.
North Somerset Council (NSC) have visited the site on several occasions and are liaising with Taylor Wimpey (TW). NSC have explained to us that there has been no breach of the planning regulations. NSC Enforcement are focused on the continued monitoring, community liaison and delivery of RR. We await an update in relation to temporary Highways and parking restrictions on RR, arrangements are currently under discussion at NSC.
From Thursday 21st August 2025 improvement works are starting on the existing pavement on the left as you walk towards the Playing Field entrance. This footpath has been in a poor state of repair for quite some time. TW are replacing the pavement to a higher specification having listened to our concerns about its current state.
In addition, from early in the following week TW we will be carrying out the improvement works to the roadway entrance works around the triangle area.
TW are working with the Backwell Playing Field Trust and the Scouts to future proof safe pedestrian access to the Playing Fields as well as ensure easier vehicular (minibus with trailer) access to the Scout hut. Other improvements planned include the West Leigh Infants School footpaths which will come into use as soon as practicably possible.
BPC will continue to represent residents with the other parties and update you when we have something new to share.
