Crossings to be upgraded on popular cycle route

News from North Somerset Council: Four crossings are to be upgraded on a popular cycling and walking route between Backwell, Nailsea and Bristol. The Festival Way is the most successful active travel corridor in North Somerset with about 1,600 leisure and commuter trips a day on foot and by bicycle. It connects Backwell and Nailsea to Bristol and also links the villages of Long Ashton and Flax Bourton to the local secondary schools. The improvements will see four key crossings upgraded to enhance safety and reduce the speed limit on Backwell Bow and Backwell Common where around 40 per cent of users are pedestrians or bicycles. Improved access and safety will benefit all users, making the route more visible and attractive to use. North Somerset Council TRO Consultation – Rural Lanes

North Somerset Council TRO Consultation - Rural Lanes, prohibition of motor vehicles (except access) Dear Residents Proposal by North Somerset Council to prohibit motor vehicles using Backwell Bow and Backwell Common Please find attached documents (below) relating to a proposal by North Somerset Council (NSC) to implement a “prohibition of motor vehicles” restriction on the network of rural lanes between Nailsea, Clevedon and Yatton and around Backwell.  This is part of a Consultation process and is the opportunity for residents to respond to NSC with their views for or against this proposal. Speeding

The Parish Council have been trying to reduce speeding in Backwell and traffic calming measures (including a 20mph speed limit) are being installed into Station Road at present. In addition we have had a "Vehicle Activated Sign" in Rodney Road for a few weeks. On 28 August 2018 the sign was moved to Dark Lane where, as well as warning drivers, it will generate data on speeding both before and after the start of the school term. We expect the sign to be there for 2-3 weeks. Information obtained from the sign and its possible location later in the year will be presented at the next Full Council Meeting.
