North Somerset Council Local Plan

This week, North Somerset Council (NSC) announced their proposed additional sites for the next iteration of the draft Local Plan: 🔗 View the announcement and documents here  The Government has allocated approximately 24,000 houses to North Somerset, requiring the identification of additional housing sites. NSC has designated Backwell and Nailsea as strategic locations for growth.  The lack of an up-to-date NSC Local Plan, combined with a shortfall in the 5-Year Land Supply due to developer land banking, is attracting speculative applications from multiple companies. Update on Local Plan as at 30 11 22

North Somerset Council are currently working towards producing a Reg 19 plan for consideration at the Executive Committee in March 2023. The intention is this will be followed by consultation and submission for examination in Summer 2023, but they are mindful that there is some uncertainty provided by the May elections.

Local Plan Working Party

27  April 2022 Backwell Parish Council's responses to the North Somerset Council Local Plan consultation have now been submitted to North Somerset Council and can be read here. We expect our responses will also be published on the North Somerset Council website in due course. We are very grateful for the input of residents and the thoughtful written comments submitted to us which informed and aided our work. We encourage residents to also submit their comments directly to North Somerset Council as individuals before the deadline of 29 April. Backwell Parish Council Local Plan Working Party's current activity is now completed and so both the working party and this page are now closed and so will not be updated for the time being.
